Lead Engineer Data Center Migration


Immediate opportunity for a Lead Data Center Migration Engineer to support our customer's data centers move. Our client is moving two (2) of their data centers from Germantown MD and Columbia MD, to the Virginia area (locations not selected, but target area is Ashburn and Richmond VA). The position requires a "Hands-On" approach, orchestrating and coordinating large-scale efforts for migrating infrastructure, which includes physical and virtual appliances from existing data centers to two greenfield data center locations. The role requires problem solving skills and flexibility to dynamic work environments. You will translate business requirements and technical specifications, input of data solutions and supporting the Data Center Team to organize data at the macro and micro level, creating models of data that enable the implementation of the intended business architecture, create diagrams showing key data entities, and create an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision. The candidate will interact closely with internal Infrastructure teams across multiple workstreams while consulting multiple vendors for developing Infrastructure Data Center documentation. The candidate must have experience in resource management, utilizing risk management and working towards the deployment of a greenfield Data Center environment.

This position is a 12 month+ contract opportunity. Although our client is 100% remote at the moment, the selected candidate must reside in the DC/MD/VA area as travel between these sites will be required in Q1 2022.

Required Skills


- Bachelors in Computer Science, or Information Systems and or similar experiences.
- 8-11 years of experience in Data Center Integrator environments. Prior experience orchestrating a data center move is required
- Data Center and infrastructure operational concepts and principles. Conception to completion of Data Center projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of Network (Cisco, LAN, WAN), Storage and Server technologies is critical. Prior hands-on experience is required
- MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio).
- Technical resource management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex concepts.
- Skills delivering large complex projects, including project scope, and schedule.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Manage resources associated with multi-million-dollar contracts.
- Knowledge of AGILE ways of working and Total Quality Management practices.
- Good understanding of data lifecycle and architecture best practices.
- Ability to work with modern workplace technology (such as MS Teams) from home and in the office.
- Basic understanding of Data Protection Legislation, HIPPA, PHI etc- is required
- Some experience with cloud data technology is a big plus.
