Electrical Engineer - RI

Our client, a leading federal defense contractor is seeking an Electrical Engineer to be a member of a cross functional team dedicated to the development of military-grade electronics and underwater acoustic systems.

Duties and Tasks:

- Analyze and design analog and digital electronic circuits including signal conditioning, power, analog-to-digital conversion, transformers, inductors, amplifiers, and communication
- Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical hardware
- Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions
- Design and build prototype cable assemblies
- Perform solder rework of prototype circuit card assemblies
- Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to local team

Required Skills

- Must be US Citizen due to government requirement
- Must be able and willing to obtain a government clearance
- Bachelor-s degree in a STEM field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Working knowledge of the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation and test phases
- Working knowledge of op-amps and transistors
- Experience with analog and digital circuit design including signal integrity principles
- Experience with transformers and inductors, and how to size them including key parameters such as flux density magnetizing current, leakage inductance, transformer and inductors losses and temperature rise.
- Working knowledge of common communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP
- Proficiency in all phases of PCB design, including: creation of high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry (OrCAD Capture experience a plus), and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.
- Familiarity with underwater acoustic principles
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Experience with the following a plus: battery systems, electric motors, and MATLAB programming

DESIRED:
- Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications
- Design, analyze, and test underwater acoustic systems
- Generate design and interface documentation
