Commvault Data Protection Consultant

Our client, an IT Services organization supporting commercial and federal clients is seeking a Commvault Data Protection Consultant to support a long-term contract with a NYC agency located in Brooklyn, NY.

We are seeking an experienced Backup Engineer to support a large-scale migration from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault across 3,000+ systems in a complex, multi-OS enterprise environment.

This role will be responsible for decommissioning legacy NetBackup clients, deploying and configuring Commvault agents, and validating secure connectivity across Windows, Linux, and Unix platforms. The engineer will translate existing backup policies, implement new backup plans, and ensure successful backup and restore operations.

Additional responsibilities include supporting VMware and database backups, migrating legacy tape-based data (LTO) to disk and cloud storage (e.g., Amazon S3), and performing full data integrity validation. The role also involves final decommissioning of legacy infrastructure and supporting operational handoff to internal teams.

Required Skills

Required Skills:

- Strong experience with Veritas NetBackup and Commvault, including large-scale migration and policy conversion
- Advanced administration across Windows Server, Linux (RHEL/CentOS), and Unix (AIX/Solaris)
- Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible) and deployment tools like Microsoft SCCM
- Solid networking knowledge (DNS, firewalls, routing, port validation, TLS/secure communication)
- Experience with virtualization and cloud storage, including VMware vSphere and S3-based platforms (e.g., Amazon S3)
- Hands-on backup of enterprise applications (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Exchange, PostgreSQL)
- Experience with tape libraries and legacy backup systems (e.g., Oracle SL8500 Tape Library, LTO media)
- Strong validation, troubleshooting, and data integrity verification skills

Desired Skills:
- Experience with Commvault Command Center and SLA/reporting dashboards
- Knowledge of deduplication, rehydration, and data lifecycle management
- Experience migrating tape-based backups to cloud/object storage tiers
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (WORM, immutability, legal hold)
- Exposure to enterprise storage platforms (e.g., NetApp StorageGRID)
- Experience working in large, regulated environments (government, healthcare, finance)
- Prior involvement in 10K+ node or multi-data center migrations
- Strong documentation, training, and operational handoff experience
