Sr. IT Project Manager, leads, plans, executes, monitors, controls and closes projects for the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). This role oversees and directs complex $5M+ enterprise wide corporate initiatives involving 15-50+ stakeholder groups across several organizational work streams. This resource will provide structured governance, coordination, tracking, and executive-ready reporting across mainframe, DB2, operations, engineering, vendor, and application stakeholder teams. The role is focused on improving operational stability, reducing recurring workload and performance risks, strengthening follow-through on action items, and ensuring clear accountability across cross-functional teams supporting high-dependency mainframe platforms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
30% - Forum Governance and Execution: Own the planning, facilitation, documentation, and follow-up for the Mainframe Workload and Stability Forum. Establish agendas, capture decisions, maintain action trackers, confirm owners and due dates, and ensure recurring cadence with clear operating discipline.
25% - Mainframe Stability and Workload Coordination: Coordinate across mainframe systems, DB2, operations, infrastructure, application, performance, and vendor teams to track workload constraints, recurring incidents, capacity issues, performance trends, remediation plans, and operational dependencies.
20% - Risk, Issue, and Action Management: Maintain a centralized risk and issue log for workload and stability concerns. Drive timely follow-up on open items, escalate blockers, validate closure evidence, and ensure risks are communicated clearly to leadership before they become delivery or production impacts.
15% - Executive Reporting and Stakeholder Communication: Prepare concise executive summaries, forum readouts, status updates, dashboards, and decision logs that communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and required leadership actions in a clear and outcome-focused manner.
10% - Process Improvement and Operating Model Maturity: Identify opportunities to strengthen forum discipline, improve intake and prioritization, standardize reporting, clarify accountability, and increase transparency across mainframe stability and workload management activities.
- PMP, Scrum Master, ITIL, or related project/program management certification preferred.
- Healthcare payer, federal program, financial services, or other regulated industry experience preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in technical project management, infrastructure project delivery, IT operations governance, systems engineering coordination, or enterprise technology program management.
- Strong experience managing cross-functional technical forums, operational review cadences, action-item tracking, issue/risk management, and executive-level reporting.
- Experience working with mainframe, DB2, enterprise database, infrastructure, production support, incident/problem management, or mission-critical operations environments.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical issues into clear business impacts, decisions needed, and actionable next steps for leadership audiences.
- Strong organizational discipline with proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, dependencies, stakeholders, and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise meeting recaps, status reports, decision logs, and escalation summaries.
- Experience using collaboration and tracking tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, or equivalent enterprise tools.
- Experience: 5 years experience leading projects in a cross-functional, technical systems implementation
- Experience supporting mainframe modernization, mainframe workload management, DB2 z/OS, DB2 LUW, capacity planning, performance tuning, or production stability initiatives.
- Experience coordinating with managed service providers, infrastructure vendors, engineering teams, application teams, and operations teams in a highly regulated enterprise environment.
- Understanding of ITIL practices, including incident, problem, change, release, and service management processes.
- Experience building executive dashboards, operational scorecards, RAID logs, action trackers, and recurring governance packages.
- Strong Communication skills both written and verbal
