Elite Technical is seeking a Mainframe focused Performance Engineer to assist our client with application performance analysis within their SYSPLEX environment. We are seeking candidates with hands-on experience within a MQ, CICS, DB2, IBM z/OS, AIX environment.
The selected candidate will define, design and develop system requirements. Performs trade-off analysis of performance, life-cycle cost, risk, producibility, and other system or program requirements. Assesses architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs system specifications, and evaluates input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Defines system support requirements to include monitoring, capacity, staffing and patching/updating. Analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies. Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design.
This position is a contract to permanent opportunity. Although primarily remote, we are seeking candidates that reside in one of the following states and can be onsite, in Reston VA, one time per month: DC, MD, VA, or WV.
- Education Level: Bachelor's Degree (In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.)
- 8+ years of total experience with recent 5+ years as a focused Performance Engineer with focus on Mainframe (MQ, CICS, IBM z/OS, AIX). Seeking IBM z/OS performance engineering/capacity planning experience
- Must have end to end application performance experience to assist with analyzing/troubleshooting performance issues.
- Performance Monitoring Tools: Experience in TMON or other mainframe z/OS system monitoring tools
- Proficient with RMF, RMF Tools and Monitor III usage and functions, SMF, and system monitors to perform z/OS and subsystem performance and capacity analysis.
- SYSPLEX Environment experience = BIG PLUS
- Big Plus: Knowledge in SAS and MXG, statistical and analytical skills. AIX/NMON desirable, especially from MXG. Very desirable running SAS/MXG from Windows or other non-Z platform.
- Knowledge of configuring and trouble-shooting IBM WLM (service classes, reporting classes, performance goals, capacity capping, and velocities, etc..)
- Experience in MQ, CICS, DB2, and DB2 distributed
- Performance Monitoring Tools: Experience in TMON or other mainframe z/OS system monitoring tools acceptable
- Excellent knowledge of hardware infrastructure IBM z13, EMC/VMAX, DLM and HCD.
- Business application workload sizing and capacity forecasting
- Ability to Lead/participate in resolution of complex z/OS problems
- Strong skills to effectively communicate complex technology solutions across diverse audiences including technical, managerial, business executives, and vendors.
