Our client, a leading federal defense contractor has an immediate opening in Canonsburg, PA for a Technical Writer to collaborate in a team environment to create and validate technical documentation for our client's Navy customers and sailors. Given their focus on defense and national security, accurate and clear documentation is essential for ensuring front-line decision makers have the best tools and information about our systems. Your mission is to produce exceptionally well-written and presented materials, and to develop the infrastructure and tools needed to create and maintain this documentation across our product range.
The initial contract is for 12 months with the strong potential to extend or convert based on job performance and business needs. The selected Technical Writer will be required to work onsite M-F in the Canonsburg, PA office.
Responsibilities:
- Create technical procedures, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and descriptive documentation.
- Work closely with engineering, product, and business teams throughout all phases of product development, including design, development, testing, and operation.
- Ensure that our customers have access to the right documentation at every stage.
- Generate, review, and edit documentation that is user-focused and of the highest quality
- Contribute to our client's technical writing tools, working on everything from style guides to the documentation lifecycle and review process
- Work with Engineering to deliver accurate and compliant documentation that not only informs and instructs, but provides a straightforward user experience.
- Must be US Citizen due to government requirement
- Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance (active clearance is preferred)
- Bachelor-s degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent is preferred plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. If no degree, an additional 4-years of TW experience is required.
- 2+ years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for an informed audience
- Solid understanding of DoD MIL standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and PDF file type formats
- Understanding and demonstrated practice of documentation revision / version control
- Experience reading and interpreting software and hardware user documentation, complex technical products, and highly structured certification processes
- Experience working in digital collaboration environments such as Teams and SharePoint. Prior use of document automation platforms, for example PandaDoc, would be a benefit.
- Basic development proficiency - we value the ability to apply technical best practices to documentation systems
- Demonstrated passion for excellent documentation and user experiences
- Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills, for a variety of audiences
